Discussion: iOS versus Android
So you’re interested in phone farming or using a phone or tablet for
GPT work, but curious as to which mobile operating system to use? A quick
search on the Internet will show you that using an Android device is usually
the way to go. But that doesn’t mean you can’t use an iOS device.
While it’s pretty clear Android is the mobile operating system of
choice for most GPT activities, this blog post will explain why this is usually
the case and what advantages there are by using an iOS or Android GPT or
farming device.
Why Use Android?
The biggest reason to operate an Android mobile device is its low cost.
If you’re ok with using an Android device, you can choose from a number of
cheap devices. Yes, many of these are from budget electronics companies like
ZTE and Alcatel. But many are also from reputable manufacturers, like LG and Samsung.
You just can’t easily find Apple devices in decent shape that will run most
GPT apps for under $30. It’s possible to find one for that cheap at a thrift
store, garage sale or on eBay, but you have to spend a lot of time searching,
be really lucky or be ok with something seriously wrong with it, like a
shattered screen).
On the Android side, for $25 you can readily purchase a device that’s
in great shape and should be able to run the vast majority of GPT apps for the
next year or more (from a software obsolescence perspective). One example is
the refurbished Samsung J3 Luna Pro (runs Marshmallow, has 1.5 GB RAM and 16GB
storage). And it comes with a 90 day warranty from Tracfone. And during Black
Friday, you can find even better deals for under $10. For example, last
November, you could get the ZTE Maven 3 for under 8 bucks. And the best thing?
It runs Nougat. Yes, it only has 1GB RAM and 8GB storage, but the ability to
run Nougat is nice and means that you can run GPT apps for the next few years
(assuming the phone can physically last that long). You just can’t find those
deals for a new, refurbished or in-good-condition iPhone or iPad.
Another reason some might want to use Android is the ease in which you
can root it. Yes, you can jailbreak an iPhone, but that won’t give you the same
level of control and access to the operating system like rooting will. I
personally do not root my GPT devices, so this advantage doesn’t matter to me,
but I know some GPT earners like to root their devices to optimize earning
potential and make their phones and devices easier to manage.
Why Use iOS?
Despite the advantages of using Android, there are a few reasons you
might want to stick with iOS.
First, you already have an iOS device. If you’re ok with using your
personal iPad or iPhone for GPT earnings, then why go out and buy an Android
device (no matter how cheap it is)? Yes, I know why using your personal device
may not be recommended, but I’m just mentioning why some might stick with iOS.
Second, someone gave you an iOS device or you can get one for really
cheap. I currently run Samsung phones exclusively for my GPT and farming work,
but that’s because I have access to cheap Samsung devices and I’ve had good
experience with their reliability, especially with batteries.
For example, I have my S6 Active which I got for free from my son
(actually, I paid him $50 because I felt guilty taking it for free and knowing
I’d be making $1 or so per day with it). I also have a Galaxy Core Prime which
is my old phone (I replaced it with a J3 Pro). And I used to use an iPhone 4 a
while back because a friend gave it to me for free.
Third, an iOS app is less likely to be a scam or fake. Because of
Apple’s app vetting requirements being more stringent than Google’s, you’re
more likely to find junk GPT apps on the Google Play Store than the Apple App
Store.
Fourth, there are some iOS exclusive GPT apps, such as Payver. When I
first heard about this app, I really wanted to try it out because I was doing a
lot of driving for a move I was doing, but I found out it was iOS only, and I
knew I’d lose money buying an iOS device just to use this app.
Fifth, iOS devices have a higher resale value. This is one reason why
they’re so hard to get for cheap, but if you really want to buy an iPhone or
iPad and want to justify the purchase, one way to do it is by knowing that if
you resell your device, even a broken one, you’ll get more money than if it’s
an Android device.
Conclusion
For most people, and in most situations, it’s easier and cheaper to get
a GPT device that runs Android rather than iOS.
